A New Approach
I have been trying to use one of those Word Press Blog's but not having anything to sell it has been a disaster so I am going to punt. I know not many have any reason to read my drivel but a few legitimate folks have read and commented and I appreciate it but by far and away it has been mainly bullshit from other people who have nothing to do with faire posting and wanting to be recognized as legit and get their B. S. stuff a larger audience so I am dumping the "Real" blog and going back in tyme to a simpler format as the only people I am interested in reaching are rennie's and that "Ilk"! Namaste - Moon)Dawg

Road Trip 2011 or No Good Deed Goes Unpunished - 8 May 2011
My Daughter, I love her, acquired a really kewl summer job working at a resort in New Mexico for the next seven months and I was cornered into taking her up there to go to work. A "Friend" had said they would take her and she was going to pay for gas round trip but at the last second they wimped and dear ole' dad was the carrier of last resort. I got my boss to give me Friday off and after work Thursday we loaded up my Taurus and headed off to Raton N. M. and Vermejo Park Ranch . The trip was long but uneventful thankfully except about a hundred miles out of Raton when we stopped at a rest area my car refused to start. A cleaning of the battery terminals cured that and we made it to the ranch without any more problems foreshadowing later developments.

The Scenery on the way into the ranch is absolutely fabulous and you are on ranch property as soon as you turn onto HWY 555 in town. The ranch, I was told, now encompasses 900 +/- Sq. Mi. and from looking at the map I believe it. From the turn off to the end of the pavement on Hwy 555 is 32 miles and then it is several more miles to the gate and I don't know how much more from there but it was a way's. |
The buildings were built around or just before the turn of the last century and more info is available on their website but as the photos show they are beautiful. My daughter and I were expecting to small room for her to stay in but the damn thing is bigger than the master bedroom in my house, I was really surprised. They keep the heat on year round because of the altitude and I never realized how badly I missed living in the mountains. I used to live in Wyoming and would still have been there but the oil field died and I could no longer make a living so we moved back south but I digress so lets move on to the punishment phase of the journey.
After leaving my daughter, sniff sniff, I headed back to Austin but only made it as far at Raton. I stopped at a c-store for Dr. Pepper and that was the last time my car started. I have a extended Ford warranty on it and called Ford thinking it was a bad ground and they dutifully sent a mechanic out but it turned out to be the starter so I called them again and they sent a wrecker to tow it. By this time the dealer was closed so I got a room while waiting and when he arrived we took it to the local Ford house. We arrived and on the door in "Big" letters it announced that service was open Mon-Fri 8:00 til 5:00 with no mention of Saturday, not a good sign so the wrecker driver suggested that I take it down the street to a shop called A&M Repair, good local rep and reliable but to call Ford in Trinidad in the morning as they were open to see if I could get in there.

I called both A&M, Ford in Raton and Ford in Trinidad in the morn, Ford in Raton was closed (the shop) but Frank told me to call back if I could not get in Trinidad, at Trinidad the man said it might be Monday and that was a non-starter for me so I called Frank back and he gave me the home number for Bruce at A&M. Bruce was out running errands so I left a message with his wife and he returned my call in a little bit, always a good sign, and said when he finished he would come get me. We went to his shop and Bruce, his mechanic and myself with assistance from another employee pushed my sled into the shop and in about an hour and a half I was on my way. I had to pay out of my pocket and I am going to try and get my money back from Ford but I'm not holding my breath. The journey home was pleasantly uneventful and 12:53 and 744 mi. later I was back in Austin and in my own bed . Enjoy the photos! namaste Moon)Dawg |
