Great Rite

Kim:

Balance a pinch of salt on the anthame blade and sprinkle it three times into the water. Stir three times Deosil with the blade of the anthame. Hold the chalice in the left hand and the anthame in the right hand. Say:

Anthame to Chalice, Spirit to Flesh, Man to Woman,

As the God and the Goddess within,

Lower the blade of the anthame into the chalice.

Together they bring blessedness to life.

We are also here to celebrate the Autumn Equinox. The God, like the Goddess, has many names. He appears, aligned w/Her, from the Paleolithic caves to the bulls of ancient Crete to the medieval tales of Robin Hood & his merry men. He is not threatened by his surrender to the power of his own feeling. Even if love lasts – and both popular songs and personal experience assure us it does not – or metamorphoses into a sweeter & deeper, if less fiery form - sooner or later one lover will die and the other will be left alone. The Craft does not try to resolve that dilemma, but to intensify it, because only through that bittersweet realization, through the embrace of Pan whose hairy thighs rub us raw even as they bring us ecstasy, can we learn to be fully alive.

Now is the time of harvest, thanksgiving and joy, leave-taking and sorrow. Now day and night are equal, in balance, and we give tho’t to the balance and flow w/in our own lives. The Sun King has become the Lord of Shadows and we follow Him into the dark. Life declines and the season of barrenness is upon us. We give thanks for that which we have reaped and gathered. We turn the Wheel of Life.

In this circle symbolizing that never-ending Wheel of Life, these blessed and consecrated monoliths will concentrate and enhance the energies raised within them and represented by the blessed items and purified quartz crystals that have been buried at their feet. The 7 Sisters are rooted in the earth but lift upward to the sky, representing the interconnectedness of the physical and spiritual realms.
